Anonymising DICOM images

Introduction

In this tutorial, we will use the auto-anonymise feature of an imaging program to remove identifying information from a DICOM sequence. We'll then compare the original with the modified image, to see what was changed. Finally, we'll use a dedicated anonymisation program to gain more control over what is anonymised.

Auto Anonymisation

Load a DICOM sequence with identifying information into Synedra View Personal. A good data set to use is Patient 1060 from Sample Data, since it has many identifying fields filled in.

Use the default rule set to anonymise the DICOM images, then save them. Use LONI Inspector to compare two images from the same location (such as the first image in both sets), to see which fields have been changed.
